The Cocoa (Florida) Construction Site is a small SpaceX-owned site located at the end of Cidco Road in Cocoa, Florida. The Mk2, and Mk4 prototypes were initially constructed there as teams both in Florida and Texas competed for the best way to build Starship. The Texas team won as the teams in Cocoa experienced issues with their barrel machine and with welding, thus making Boca Chica what it is today.

As of 2023, the Cocoa site was used to produce heat shield tiles in a building SpaceX calls the Bakery. The remains of Starship Mark 2 were slowly demolished with some equipment being shipped over to Boca Chica. However, SpaceX didn't abandon Florida with their Robert's Road site becoming the new hub at the Cape.[1]

History[]

Mk3, later SN1

Mk3, later SN1

The site was constructed for Starship between 2019 and 2020. A large tent shelter with a rounded roof was set up, and the first four "Mk" prototypes were built there. However, the Mk1 was moved away to Starbase, the Mk2 was canceled and so was the Mk4. The Mk3 was renamed SN1 and was destroyed during a cryo test. After the construction and testing of the Mk1, Starbase, Boca Chica became the primary production site for Starship.
