The production site at Starbase is where the majority of Starship production takes place. Rings and barrels are manufactured in the Starfactory and then assembled in one of the three High Bays to create prototypes of the Super Heavy Booster or Ship (Starship's Second stage). Additionally, test tanks are produced at this location. However, certain components are not manufactured at the production site, such as heat shield tiles, which are made in Florida, and stands and other equipment, which are fabricated at the Sanchez Site.

The main facilities for construction are or were:

Previously, there were three large tents in which most of the work on barrel sections took place. The space of the tents was used for the construction of the Starfactory. Stacking of boosters and ships take place in the bays, with mega bay 1 being used for boosters and mega bay 2 for ships. Before the development of the Starfactory, there was also a low bay (mainly for nosecone work) and a mid bay (mainly for ships).

Other buildings at the production site include:

  • Stargate Building
  • Parking garage

History[]

A main source for the development is the environmental impact statement and its amendments, published on the FAA site[1].

Old Map of Production Site from Feb 2021

May 2014 - FEIS[]

As at this early stage the site was intended for Falcon 9 launches, there was no build site included. However, the area of the build site was included in the Control Center Area as parcel one. For description see Boca Chica Village.

November 2014 - Re-evaluation[]

The parcels at Boca Chica village have been excluded, look the chapter of the Boca Chica Village article.

October 2017 - Re-evaluation[]

Now, parcel two was included again, proposing a solar array and other buildings. Look at the respective chapter of the Boca Chica Village article.

May 2019 - Re-evaluation[]

As SpaceX now has now specified its Starship testing program, several major changes are being proposed. These include:

  • Specification of the experimental test program, including Starship and phases [to be described in the main article, linked here]
  • New commodities for the "Control center area" for phase one and two of the program
  • New commodities for the vertical launch area (VLA, test site) for phase one and two of the program
