Gigabay is the newest planned Vertical Integration Facility at Starbase[1]. It is planned to be completed by the end of 2026 at and assuming the same dimensions as Gigabay, will be 380 feet (116 metres) tall according to FAA documentation from that bay[2]. The Starbase Gigabay is located in the area previously occupied by High Bay and the STARGATE Building between the Starbase Parking Garage, Starfactory and Mega Bay 1.

History[]

Previously, SpaceX COO, Gwynne Shotwell, had mentioned plans for a third Mega Bay type facility at Starbase during a local presentation in Boca Chica however the first suggestions of plans for this to be Gigabay were found on November 26th 2024 with the release of a job recruitment page listed as "MEP/Construction Engineer (Gigabay).[3][4]

Official confirmation of these plans was released on March 3rd 2025 as part of the first launch attempt of Starship Flight Test 8, with the SpaceX website stating that "we are also building another Gigabay at Starbase in Texas, next to our Starship Starfactory manufacturing facility. Work on this Gigabay has already begun, and the facility is targeted for completion by the end of 2026 [5].

By the 8th of March 2025, a new sign indicating the small triangular section of Starfactory was closed was posted on the doors and the concrete inside began being torn up and the lights in that section removed. The AC duct was also been cut along the line separating the original footprint from the factory. This could indicate the triangular section will be taken down as a part of the new Gigabay's construction[6].
