The Mid Bay was a fabrication building at the Boca Chica Starbase production site where SpaceX begun stacking of Starship barrel sections that were built in the production tents or Low Bay. The aft flaps were installed here. GSE tanks and test tanks have also been stacked here. After stacking in Mid Bay, Starship was moved slightly out for heat shield installation, although this changed with preinstalled tiles. It was then moved to High Bay for nosecone stacking and other work.
The Mid Bay was called this way because it was smaller than the High Bay but taller than the Low Bay (windbreak). It was located south of the fabrication tents adjacent to Highway 4, but its opening was not towards the road but towards the construction site. Following the high altitude flight test program, it was primarily used for partial assembly of Starship prototypes and test tanks, along with replacing the Low Bay as a windbreak due to its position.
The Mid Bay, along with the windbreak, was demolished on the 27th of August 2023 due to it being of no more intended use as well as to make way for the Starfactory expansion.
