Red Dragon was a proposed spacecraft from SpaceX designed as a low-cost Mars lander. It was planned to use a modified cargo Dragon 2 spacecraft launched on top of a a Falcon Heavy, and deliver cargo to the surface of Mars. Crew was not planned to be launched on Red Dragon. However, after not receiving funding from NASA and SpaceX focusing resources on Starship, it was eventually cancelled in 2017, 6 years after it was first proposed.
